Dr. Vinod Padmanabhan

Dr. Vinod Padmanabhan, an Orthopaedic Surgeon by profession is the Head of Department at Silverline Hospital and Sree Sudheendra Medical Mission, Kochi, Kerala. Practising since 2002, Dr. Padmanabhan is a trained expert in Arthroplasty (Joint replacement surgery), Complex trauma, Arthroscopy and Sports injury treatments.

Born in Kerala, Dr. Padmanabhan grew up in Central India from where he did his schooling at Kendriya Vidyalaya, Hoshangabad (Madhya Pradhesh) and later graduation from G.R. Medical College, Gwalior in the year 1994. Dr. Padmanabhan was drawn towards the field of Orthopaedics due to the immense application of instrumentation and engineering principles. This was followed by post graduation from KMC Manipal where he finalized his thesis on a rare condition Osteogenesis Imperfecta (Brittle bone disease) under the guidance of legendary Prof. Benjamin Joseph. Further, he did his Masters (DNB) in Orthopedics from Bombay Hospital, Mumbai where he was presented with the opportunity to train under the great mentors like Dr (Late) K.T.Dholakia, Dr Arun Mullaji, Dr Anant Joshi and Dr Ashok Johari. He was allured towards the field of Joint replacement and Reconstruction surgery which he sought to pursue as a career and consequently completed his Fellowship in Joint Replacement Surgery from Mumbai. He also has obtained overseas training in Joint Replacement and Adult Reconstruction from Katherinen Hospital, Stuttgart (Germany) and Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital (Stanmore, England).

Dr. Padmanabhan’s keen interest in research has translated in many publications including five international publications in indexed journals. He has numerous presentations in various state, national and international conferences and workshops to his credit. He has won the Best Paper award in Orthopaedic Association conferences on two occassions.

Dr. Padmanabhan was outstanding in sports and academics during school and college days. He is a good sportsman who has played Cricket, Volley ball, Table Tennis and Athletics at regional and national level. Dr. Padmanabhan was appointed the Team doctor of Kochi Tuskers Kerala cricket team in IPL during which he has addressed health concerns of star cricketers like Brendon McCullum, VVS Laxman and Muttaiah Muralidharan. Inspite of his enormous success, Dr. Padmanabhan is a humble individual who belives in carrying out charity work through free camps and free surgeries conducted for the disabled (deformity correction in disabled children) and the needy. He has also raised awarenees among masses through health talks related to Orthopedics, some of which have been aired on television as well.
